NEW WINDOWS ON WILLESDEN GREEN - DESIGNER

I've been working on a high street regeneration project with the Architecture Foundation and Brent Council. 25 designers were partnered with 25 shops to create a giant advent calendar of shop windows. I designed the Christmas eve window, which was at Norma's Blessed Hands caribbean cafe. The design also incorporated legacy improvements to the shop front, and I designed a new logo and signage graphics for the business. For more info, see the website www.willesdenwindows.com. I won Best Festive Design, judged by Design for London, The Guardian and Somerset House. You can hear my interview about my design and the project, on BBC Radio Breakfast Show last week. http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p00m43qs

There were great windows designed by IWANTDESIGN, WE ARE LAURA, KIERAN JONES and OCTOPI, who range from architect practices, graphics agencies and artists.

My design was based on tropical christmas, golden carousels, and christmas novelty toys. I made a turntable with individually spinning miniature jamaican scenes, all solar powered. Shanty towns, goats on mountain tops, swirling angels, flying birds, palm trees and beaches. Lit with orange and pink gels. Here are some pics of my window

I also ran a workshop over the events weekend. Being bored of the plain old gold 5 point christmas stars, the workshop took inspiration from real stars, galaxies and nebulae, and the amazing colours, marbles and sparks they produce. With a table full of bright coloured icing, pipes, sweets, stars, stencils, sprinkles and edible gold spray paint, the public were each hand there own solarsystem set of gingerbread biscuits to decorate. handcooked by me :) here are some photos of the day
